Vermont History

Kids made a mural of Abenaki life. They made note cards describing their pictures and then used the information to guide them in an assessment.

They also built a model of Fort Dummer (in Brattleboro, Vt) and learned that most early settlers in "Vermont" lived in forts at first for protection.

Fall Conferences

http://medvedwiki.wikispaces.com/

Visit my wiki to sign up for one of two Wednesday afternoon/evenings in November so we can meet and talk about your child's progress.

Hike for Hunger was a sunny success. We had a great time at the Catamount Family Center and raised almost $1,000 for hungry children in Vermont.

We're going batty!

Students will research bats these next two weeks. Most of the bats are North American species, and a few are from the rainforests. Students will write brief reports and then make life-sized bats. Here are some links that will be helpful:

We have had an exciting 3-day and 4-day school week so far! We are getting to know each other, and establishing rules based on our school's SMART goals. We are now known as the M&Ms, (Medved Mosaic's) and had the tasty candy to celebrate. For our life science we have been following the Monarch Butterfly life-cyle and had a lot of excitement on Friday when all 5 chrysalids emerged! Student's wrote chrysalis goals on what they hope to "become" this year and when they are adults. This week they will write their butterfly statements and tell the class what they "already are experts at"....by telling us all what their strengths are. Good luck to us for our first 5 day week!

Here is the video of us releasing the adult butterflies, with a beautiful song by Makenzee.

This video shows our last Monarch emerging from the chrysalis.
